Belgium has condemned Israel’s decisions to increase “supervision and control activities” in areas of the occupied West Bank under the administration of the Palestinian Authority, stressing that the measures violate international law.
Belgian Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prévot issued a statement on social media addressing Israel’s recent moves in the West Bank. Prévot said that Israel’s decisions clearly contradict international law and relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
“I condemn Israel’s decisions to increase control in the occupied West Bank,” Prévot said, emphasizing that peace can only be achieved through an approach based on law and mutual respect.
Violation of UN Resolutions Emphasized
The Belgian minister underlined that Israel’s actions are in violation of United Nations resolutions. The statement recalled that the international community recognizes the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as occupied Palestinian territory.
Prévot also warned that Israel’s measures to tighten control in the region deepen existing tensions and undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace.
