British Intelligence Officer Identified in Russia

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has identified a British intelligence officer who was sent to Russia under the guise of a “diplomat.”

According to an FSB statement, Gareth Samuel Davis, whose job description was not officially declared, was sent to Russia under the cover of Second Secretary of the Administrative and Economic Department at the British Embassy in Moscow.

The statement said: “During counterintelligence operations, an undeclared British intelligence officer, Gareth Samuel Davis, born on August 8, 1980, was identified. Davis was sent to Russia under the cover of Second Secretary of the Administrative and Economic Department at the British Embassy in Moscow.”

The British national’s accreditation was revoked, and he was ordered to leave the country within two weeks.

Protest from the Russian Foreign Ministry

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned British Chargé d’Affaires Danae Dholakia to the ministry to seek clarification over the incident. Dholakia was formally handed a protest note regarding the British agent who had presented himself as an embassy employee.

The ministry warned that if London continues to escalate tensions, Moscow would respond in kind.
