China’s Foreign Ministry warned of countermeasures in response to the U.S. decision to impose tariffs on countries that conduct trade with Iran. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, spokesperson Mao Ning stated that China is determined to protect its legitimate rights and interests.
Trump announces 25 percent tariff on countries doing business with Iran
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the Truth Social platform that all countries doing business with Iran would be subject to a 25 percent tariff.
Trump said that any country trading with Iran would face this tariff across all of its commercial dealings with the United States.
Mao Ning: No winners in a tariff war
Asked to comment on Trump’s decision, Mao Ning stressed that China’s position on tariffs has not changed and said:
“China’s position on tariffs is very clear. We have always believed that there are no winners in a tariff war. China will firmly safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.”
