Crane Falls Onto Moving Train in Thailand: 22 Dead

At least 22 people were killed and more than 30 injured after a train derailed and overturned when a construction crane fell onto it in Thailand.

According to Thai media, the incident occurred in the morning when a train traveling from the capital Bangkok to the country’s northeast derailed and overturned after a construction crane collapsed onto it.

Thai police said that a crane working on a high-speed rail project collapsed in the Sikhio district of Nakhon Ratchasima province, about 230 kilometers northeast of Bangkok, and fell onto one of the cars of a moving train.

Authorities said initial reports indicate that at least 22 people were killed and more than 30 injured in the accident. They added that a fire that broke out after the train derailed has been extinguished and search and rescue operations are ongoing.

No official statement has yet been made regarding the number of passengers on board the train.
