Egypt Holds Talks with Oman, Iran and the U.S. to De-Escalate Iran–U.S. Tensions

Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that, ahead of the Geneva talks scheduled for Thursday between the United States and Iran, a series of diplomatic contacts were held to help ease tensions. The discussions included Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, and U.S. Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff.

The ministry stated that, under presidential directives, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held extensive talks over the past two days with his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to the statement, Abdelatty also spoke with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi and U.S. President Donald Trump’s Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. The discussions focused on “reducing tensions regarding Iran’s nuclear file and reaching a negotiated solution based on consensus.”

The talks emphasized the importance of containing escalating tensions in the region and creating suitable conditions for the continuation of negotiations between the United States and Iran. The statement added that reaching agreements that take into account the concerns of all parties would help protect the region from further escalation and instability.

Call to Safeguard Regional Security

During his meetings, Egyptian Foreign Minister Abdelatty highlighted that the region is going through a sensitive period, stressing the need to overcome disputes and preserve regional security. He underscored that there is no military solution to the crises in the region, and that lasting security and stability can only be achieved through political and diplomatic means.

The ministry also noted that Egypt will continue its contacts with both the United States and Iran, as well as regional partners, in pursuit of a peaceful resolution.
