Friedrich Merz Re-Elected as Party Chairman

Christian Democratic Union (CDU) Chairman Friedrich Merz was re-elected as party leader at the party congress, receiving 91.17 percent of the vote.

According to the official results, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz secured 91.17 percent support to retain his position as chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).

Following the vote, Merz said, “I accept the election result.” No other candidate ran for the party leadership.

Merz was first elected CDU chairman in 2022 during an online congress with 95 percent of the vote, and he continued in office after receiving around 90 percent support in the 2024 party election.
