Indonesia and Pakistan Agree to Expand Defense Cooperation

Senior defense officials from Indonesia and Pakistan have agreed to expand bilateral defense cooperation.

Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin met with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, in the capital Islamabad.

According to Pakistan-based The Nation newspaper, the meeting—attended by senior military officials—addressed developments in regional and global security dynamics, and the two sides agreed to broaden defense cooperation between their countries.

In a joint statement issued after the meeting, the following remarks were included:

“The parties underscored the importance of strengthening institutional ties between Pakistan and Indonesia, as well as enhancing cooperation in training and the defense industry.”
