Kallas: The U.S. Wants to Divide the EU Because It Does Not Like It

The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas claimed that the United States wants to divide Europe.

Speaking to the U.S. media, Kallas criticized Washington’s stance toward Brussels.

“I think it is very important for everyone to understand this. The United States has clearly shown that it wants to divide Europe. They do not like the European Union,” Kallas said.

The EU diplomat also argued that Washington is resorting to tactics used by opponents of the European Union.

Earlier, the U.S. administration stated that it disagrees with European officials who hold unrealistic expectations regarding the conflict in Ukraine. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that the disagreements between Washington and Brussels stem from concerns about the future.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has repeatedly stated that Europe is heading in the wrong direction. Trump has accused the EU of increasing public spending and relying on endless imports, and has criticized member states for not making use of their natural resources.
