It has been reported that U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff hopes to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, January 22. The Kremlin has also confirmed that the meeting will take place.
According to Reuters, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff said in an interview with CNBC that he hopes to meet President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, January 22.
Witkoff also stated that significant progress has been made in recent weeks in negotiations with Russia on the issue of Ukraine.
Previously, Bloomberg News reported, citing its own sources, that Witkoff and U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner were planning to visit Moscow in the near future to discuss a potential agreement on resolving the conflict in Ukraine and to address security guarantees for Ukraine with President Putin.
“Putin Will Meet Witkoff on Thursday”
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff is scheduled for Thursday.
“Yes, that is correct. Such a meeting is included in the President’s schedule for tomorrow,” Peskov said.
The meeting scheduled for Thursday, January 22, will be the seventh face-to-face meeting between Putin and Witkoff.
Putin and Witkoff have previously met five times at the Kremlin, and on one occasion the Russian leader received the U.S. Special Envoy in St. Petersburg. Putin and Witkoff have also met in Anchorage, where Witkoff was a member of Donald Trump’s delegation at the time.
