Kremlin: No Signals from Europe on Energy Cooperation

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that they have not received any signals from European countries indicating a willingness to engage in dialogue on energy cooperation, noting that global energy markets are experiencing major turbulence.

Speaking at a press briefing, Peskov responded to questions on current issues and was asked whether the European Union had made any requests regarding energy cooperation. “We have not received any signals from Europeans, not even indicating a willingness to enter into dialogue,” he said.

“Europe not needed at Ukraine negotiation table”

Peskov noted that while there have been signals from European countries expressing a desire to participate in negotiations regarding a resolution to the Ukraine conflict, Russia does not consider this necessary or appropriate.

He added that no other signals had been received from Europe, but emphasized that it is never too late for dialogue. “As you know, President Putin remains open to constructive dialogue and to discussing the most urgent issues at the negotiating table,” he said.

Early exit from European gas markets under review

Responding to a question about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s instruction to assess a potential early withdrawal from European natural gas markets, Peskov said the issue is currently under evaluation and requires in-depth analysis.

He highlighted that the energy market is undergoing significant volatility due to the war involving Iran, making it difficult to predict market dynamics. “A comprehensive analysis is being conducted, taking into account all aspects of the current situation,” he added.

Other key statements

Peskov also made several additional remarks:

  • Russia condemns actions aimed at harming or potentially assassinating representatives of the leadership of independent and sovereign Iran and other countries.

  • Russia sees no need to comment on claims that it is assisting Iran in the current conflict.

  • The United States has officially stated that it has no information suggesting Russia is aiding Iran in the conflict.

Remarks on European leaders

Peskov also said he agrees with U.S. President Donald Trump’s view that today’s European politicians are not on the same level as their predecessors.

“In this context, we can probably acknowledge that Starmer is not a Churchill, and Macron is not a de Gaulle. This list could be extended. These are the political realities we are living in,” he said.
