Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that sending military units from Europe to Ukraine would amount to a direct military confrontation with Russia, adding that Hungary would not take part in such a move.
In a post on his X account ahead of a planned anti-war rally in the western Hungarian city of Szombathely, Orbán emphasized that Hungary would not participate in the deployment of European military forces to Ukraine, as it would lead to direct military conflict with Russia.
“We must speak plainly when we talk about war. Today, sending money from Hungary to Ukraine is dangerous. Tomorrow, young Hungarians could be sent to war. The presence of European troops in Ukraine would mean direct confrontation with Russia,” Orbán said, adding:
“Hungary says ‘no, we refuse to take part in this.’”
