Pentagon in Talks with Denmark Over Greenland: Seeks Access to Three Military Bases

Washington is reportedly seeking renewed access to military bases in the Narsarsuaq and Kangerlussuaq regions in western Greenland, where U.S. facilities were previously located.

Western media report that the Pentagon is negotiating with Denmark to obtain access to three military bases in Greenland.

The bases in question are said to be located in western Greenland, specifically in the Narsarsuaq and Kangerlussuaq areas, which previously hosted American installations. The head of United States Northern Command, General Gregory Guillot, stated that they aim to expand access to these bases given the Arctic region’s growing strategic importance.

The negotiations are reportedly being conducted within the framework of a 1951 agreement that granted broad authorities to the U.S. military on the island. It was also noted that there is currently no active U.S. military base operating in Greenland.
