Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which the situation surrounding Iran was discussed. Putin also expressed his gratitude for Azerbaijan’s assistance in organizing the evacuation of Russian citizens from Iran.
According to a statement released by the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin spoke by phone with Ilham Aliyev. The Russian leader thanked his counterpart for Azerbaijan’s support in organizing the evacuation of Russian citizens from Iran and for facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid sent by Russia to Iranian civilians.
The statement noted that during their exchange of views on the current situation in the Middle East, the two leaders emphasized their support for a rapid end to the hostilities and for resolving the ongoing violent conflict through political and diplomatic means.
According to the statement, the leaders also reaffirmed their determination to further develop cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan.
