Russia’s Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu stated that the West seeks to create discord within the strategic alliance between Russia and China but will fail to do so.
Sergei Shoigu met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing. Speaking after the meeting, Shoigu said, “Western countries dream of undermining the strategic alliance between our nations. I would like to once again emphasize that Moscow and Beijing will not remain passive observers with their hands tied in response to such one-sided insinuations.”
Shoigu noted that “we see that Western countries have made it a rule to justify their actions by citing the so-called Russian and Chinese threat,” while also stressing that foreign policy coordination between Russia and China remains “traditionally at a high level.”
He added that the positions of the two countries “either overlap or are very close when it comes to protecting national interests, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and ensuring security and development.” Shoigu emphasized: “Once again, I would like to assure that we will stand shoulder to shoulder and take appropriate measures together to preserve global and regional stability and to defend international law based on the UN system.”
Shoigu also stated that Russia and China would expand cooperation within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS, saying, “These formats are an example of intergovernmental cooperation based on mutual respect and reflect the interests of the global majority, not a small group of individuals who see themselves as the chosen inhabitants of a flourishing garden.”
