Trump Discussed Greenland with NATO Secretary General Rutte

U.S. President Trump stated that during a phone call with NATO Secretary General Rutte, he emphasized the importance of Greenland for national and global security.

U.S. President Donald Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social that he had a “very productive” phone conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte regarding Greenland.

Trump said, “As I have told everyone before, Greenland is vital to national and global security. There is no turning back, everyone agrees!”

Noting that the United States agreed to hold a meeting on the Greenland issue at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump added, “We are the only force in the world that can ensure peace, and we can achieve this in a simple way—by using force!”

“Denmark Cannot Protect Greenland”

In an earlier statement to journalists, Trump said, “We must take Greenland… Denmark cannot protect it… I know their leaders, they are very good people, but they don’t even go there.”

Greenland is an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. However, Trump has repeatedly stated that the island should become part of the United States. The governments of Denmark and Greenland, on the other hand, have warned Washington against any attempt to seize the island, emphasizing that they expect respect for their territorial integrity.
