Witkoff and Kushner Plan to Visit Moscow in January

According to sources close to the matter cited by the U.S. media, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner are expected to travel to Moscow later this month to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to a report by the U.S.-based business news outlet Bloomberg, citing its own sources, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are planning to visit Moscow in the near future to discuss a possible agreement on a settlement in Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The report stated: “Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are planning to travel to Moscow in the near future to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting could take place later this month.”

“It Could Take Place in January”

Sources speaking to Bloomberg said the meeting is expected to take place this month, but noted that the plans have not yet been finalized and that the schedule could be delayed due to the situation in Iran.

According to the report, the U.S. delegation aims to discuss security guarantees that the United States and Europe plan to provide to Kyiv and to present the final draft of a proposed settlement plan for Ukraine.

Talks on the U.S. Peace Plan

At the end of November, the White House announced that it was working on a peace initiative to end the conflict in Ukraine. Within this framework, Witkoff and Kushner visited Moscow on December 2 and held a nearly five-hour meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin.

Putin said that Washington had proposed dividing the 27 points of the plan into four packages and reviewing each separately. The Russian leader noted that he had to examine each package and that the plan contained question marks that Moscow did not accept.

In recent weeks, Witkoff and Kushner discussed the U.S. plan with Kyiv leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders. Following those talks, it was claimed that Western countries agreed to provide Ukraine with security guarantees similar to Article 5 of the NATO Treaty.

In late December, U.S. President Donald Trump met with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Florida, after which a White House official stated that the two sides had reached agreement on 95 percent of the issues. Subsequently, during a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Trump said the Russian leader informed him of an attempted attack by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a residential building. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov later stated that Moscow would reassess its negotiating position following Kyiv’s actions.
