Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Russia has never initiated wars throughout its history and has never assumed the role of a global aggressor.
Zakharova said that Russia has never been the side to start wars, but rather has ended them “on the side of goodness and truth,” adding that her country has never been a colonial empire.
In an interview with Natalya Lokteva, a member of the Russian State Council’s Family Commission and Director of the Institute for the Support of Children’s Blogging, Zakharova emphasized that Russia does not have a colonial past like Western empires. She stated:
“Historically, we have never acted as global aggressors, and we have never started any world wars. We only ended them, and we emerged victorious from those world wars on the side of goodness and truth.
Russia has never been a colonial empire that conquered other countries, lands, or continents solely to exploit their resources. On the contrary, the peoples who came under Russia’s sphere of influence were provided with knowledge and development in science, industry, engineering, and technology. When these societies gained independence, they possessed developed state structures, economies, and education systems.”
Zakharova underlined that, because of this historical legacy, Russia has been and continues to be an important part of world civilization.
