US President Donald Trump is set to visit China from May 13 to 15.
In a statement released by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, it was announced that Trump will pay an official visit to Beijing at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The visit, which had previously been announced by the US side, has now been officially confirmed by China.
Trump will be visiting China for the first time in 8.5 years. Former US President Joe Biden did not visit China during his term. The last leader-level visit from the United States to China took place in 2017, during Trump’s first term in office.
President Trump’s critical visit to strategic rival China comes at a time when the war in the Middle East — which began with attacks by the US and Israel on Iran and escalated with Iran’s retaliatory strikes — remains unresolved.
The trip, which had originally been scheduled for March 31 to April 2 but was postponed due to the US President’s need to focus on the war involving Iran, is expected to feature the Middle East conflict as one of its key agenda items.
