Russian President Vladimir Putin stated during a meeting with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan that there is strong potential to expand bilateral trade between Russia and Tanzania.
Speaking with President Hassan in St. Petersburg, Putin noted that trade turnover between the two countries increased by 25 percent last year and said cooperation could be further strengthened in a wide range of sectors, including energy, mining, transportation, healthcare, and education.
“I am referring to a broad range of areas, from energy and geological exploration to transportation and logistics in general, as well as healthcare and education,” Putin said.
The Russian leader emphasized that bilateral relations have consistently developed at a high level. Recalling that trade volume between Russia and Tanzania grew by 25 percent last year, he also highlighted the close cooperation between the two countries on the international stage, where they continue to support one another.
Putin also referred to the upcoming Third Russia-Africa Summit and expressed hope that Tanzania would be represented at a high level.
For her part, President Samia Suluhu Hassan thanked Moscow for its support of Africa’s liberation movements during the 1960s.
Hassan’s official visit to Russia is her first foreign trip since securing victory in the October 2025 elections. During her visit, the Tanzanian leader is also expected to address the plenary session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum and participate in Russia-Tanzania business dialogue events held on the sidelines of the forum.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is taking place from June 3 to June 6.
