Burkina Faso Cuts Diplomatic Ties with France

Burkina Faso has severed diplomatic relations with France, citing concerns over its national sovereignty. The West African nation said the decision followed a review of bilateral relations.

Burkina Faso has officially ended its diplomatic ties with France.

In a statement, the government in the capital, Ouagadougou, said that the foundations of the relationship—”mutual respect, trust, non-interference in internal affairs, and respect for national sovereignty”—no longer existed.

The statement also accused France of engaging in “continuous activism” against Burkina Faso and alleged that it had supported terrorist groups responsible for violence in the country and across the Sahel region.
