The Iranian Foreign Ministry strongly condemned U.S. airstrikes on several locations along the country’s southern coast, saying the attacks violated international law and an existing agreement between the parties.
In a written statement, the ministry said the U.S. strikes on several areas along Iran’s southern coastline were in breach of international law as well as the agreement that had reportedly been reached between the parties.
The ministry stated that surveillance facilities in coastal areas, particularly in the city of Sirik, were targeted, adding that it “strongly condemns” the attacks.
Violation of the UN Charter and the Agreement
According to the statement, the U.S. strikes carried out on the evening of Friday, June 27, 2026, constituted a clear violation of Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter.
Iran also argued that the attacks breached the “Memorandum of Understanding on Ending the Imposed War,” dated June 18, 2026.
The government in Tehran said that targeting coastal surveillance facilities amounted to a direct attack on the country’s national sovereignty.
Right to Self-Defense
The Foreign Ministry stressed that Iran has the right to protect its national sovereignty and interests, adding that any potential response against U.S. assets would be carried out within the framework of its legitimate right to self-defense.
