Canadian Prime Minister Carney Meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Chinese President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

During the first visit to China by a Canadian government since 2017, Prime Minister Mark Carney and President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks.

Carney said that both sides should focus on areas where they can achieve mutual gains, including agriculture, energy, and finance. “We will ensure stability, security, and prosperity for both sides,” Carney stated.

In his remarks, President Xi noted, “This is your first visit since taking office and the first time in eight years that a Canadian prime minister has visited China.”

Xi told Carney, “With a sense of responsibility to history, to our peoples, and to the world, I look forward to continuing to work with you to further develop China–Canada relations.”
