Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are currently in a period of “deep stagnation” and that there are no new ideas between the two sides that could restart the talks. Peskov stated that despite the lack of progress in the diplomatic process, Russia would continue its military activities in Ukraine.
Speaking at a press briefing where he answered questions from journalists, Peskov commented on developments in Ukraine as well as contacts between the United States and Russia.
Peskov: There Are No New Ideas
Commenting on possible peace talks with Ukraine, Peskov said that the negotiations are not making progress at the moment.
“Peace talks are currently in a state of deep stagnation. There are no new ideas on the table. The Ukrainian side knows our demands very well, but they do not want to negotiate the issue through peaceful means,” Peskov said.
The Kremlin spokesman argued that the Kyiv administration was unwilling to engage in negotiations, adding that the deadlock in diplomatic channels was continuing.
Kremlin: Military Operations Will Continue
Peskov said that Russia would continue its military activities on the ground despite the suspension of negotiations.
Claiming that the Russian army’s advance on the front was continuing, Peskov said, “The special military operation is continuing, and progress on the front is clearly visible.”
Peskov stated that attacks targeting Kyiv were continuing in a systematic and targeted manner, adding that Russia would maintain its operations against Ukraine’s military and military-related infrastructure.
No New Meeting Planned Between Putin and Trump
The Kremlin spokesman also commented on contacts between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump.
Peskov said that there is currently no scheduled phone call or other contact planned between the two leaders.
Kremlin Denies Claim About CIA Director Ratcliffe
Peskov also denied reports in the US media that CIA Director John Ratcliffe had met with Putin during a visit to Moscow.
The Kremlin spokesman said there had been no meeting or contact between Putin and Ratcliffe, adding that relevant contacts between the two countries were being conducted at the level of intelligence services.
