Belgium: The U.S. May Be Strong, but Our Dignity Is Not for Sale — We Are Not Slaves

Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever delivered strong remarks regarding U.S. policies toward Greenland, saying, “They may be strong, but our dignity is not for sale.”

Speaking in the Belgian Parliament about the United States’ relations with Greenland, Prime Minister De Wever stated:

“The United States may be strong, but our dignity is not for sale — we are not slaves.”

‘As Europeans, We Must Prepare for Turbulent Times’

Emphasizing that Europe must draw the necessary lessons from recent developments, De Wever said that, at this stage, threats related to military and trade restrictions had been pushed back and that a new trade war would benefit no one.

De Wever also noted that in an ideal world, ties between Europe and the United States would remain strong, but pointed out that the world is far from ideal, adding:

“As Europeans, we must prepare for turbulent times.”
