Mexico has announced that it will not join the Peace Council established for Gaza, but will follow the process as an observer.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that Mexico would not participate in the Peace Council formed for Gaza, but would monitor the process in an observer capacity.
In her statement, Sheinbaum said:
“In this situation, particularly when it comes to peace in the Middle East and the Palestinian issue, we recognize Palestine as a state. Therefore, it is important that both states — Israel and Palestine — participate. However, the meeting has not been planned in that way.
We were invited to participate, and it was indicated that if we would not take part actively, we could attend as observers. Together with the Foreign Minister, we decided that our ambassador to the United Nations will attend as an observer.”
