Russia Urges U.S. to Abandon Cuba Blockade Plans

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on the United States to abandon alleged plans to impose a naval blockade on Cuba.

Lavrov met in Moscow today with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, who was visiting the Russian capital.

During the meeting, Lavrov stated, “Together with the overwhelming majority of the international community, we call on the United States to adopt a prudent and responsible approach and to abandon its plans to impose a naval blockade on the Island of Freedom.”

Lavrov also noted that Russia will continue to support Cuba and its people in defending the country’s independence and security. He stressed that Moscow firmly rejects accusations that Russia-Cuba cooperation poses a threat to the United States.
