According to CBS News, citing sources familiar with the matter, these efforts are being carried out to ensure that all military options are on the table for President Donald Trump’s administration in response to the escalating conflict in the Middle East.
The CBS report stated: “Pentagon officials are making detailed preparations for the deployment of U.S. ground forces in Iran. Senior military leadership has made specific requests as part of preparations for this scenario, as President Trump evaluates the next steps in the conflict with Iran.”
According to the report, Trump is considering the possibility of deploying U.S. ground forces in the region, although the conditions under which he would authorize a ground operation against Iran have not yet been clearly defined.
As part of operational planning, it is noted that the U.S. Army’s Global Response Force and Marine Expeditionary Units have been activated. These elements are expected to play a leading role in any potential ground operation.
