U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio accused NATO of acting unilaterally after refusing to support the United States on Iran.
Speaking to a local television channel, Rubio said that some allies declined to assist in operations against Iran and claimed that NATO functions in a way that serves only Europe’s interests.
“If we have reached a point where we can no longer effectively use these bases to defend U.S. interests, then NATO is a one-way street. In that case, NATO means our troops are there to defend Europe, but when we need help, we don’t receive it,” Rubio stated.
The U.S. diplomat also added that Washington may have to “review” its relations with NATO following the Iran war.
