An official from the Russian Foreign Ministry, Logvinov, stated that Western countries have brought the Secretariat of the United Nations (UN) under their influence.
Kirill Logvinov, Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry, told Sputnik that Western countries impose initiatives within international organizations that serve their own interests, without taking alternative views into account.
The Russian diplomat also claimed that bribery and blackmail are used to achieve this. “The UN Secretariat, which has been taken over by representatives of the Western minority, significantly contributes to these negative trends. Despite its officially neutral status, UN officials often shamelessly carry out the instructions of their own capitals,” he said.
Logvinov also argued that some countries are trying to turn the UN General Assembly into a geopolitical battleground. He accused Secretary-General António Guterres of devoting more time to personal projects, such as the UN-80 initiative, instead of fulfilling his duties.
Pointing out that the UN’s success stories in resolving conflicts are steadily declining, the Russian diplomat said the organization is increasingly failing to demonstrate a constructive approach. “In some cases, there has been a lack of resources; in others, a lack of effectiveness in implementing mandates. However, the main problem lies in the unwillingness of Western countries to engage in negotiations and find mutually acceptable solutions in international relations,” he added.
Logvinov cited the conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East as examples.
