The alert level has been raised to “orange” in eight departments in France due to the ongoing heatwave affecting the country.

The extreme heat that impacted France yesterday continues to persist. France’s meteorological service, Meteo France, announced that the alert level was elevated to “orange” in eight departments as temperatures remain well above seasonal norms. In some areas, temperatures reached as high as 36 degrees Celsius.

French Government spokesperson Maud Bregeon, speaking on French channel TF1, stated that two people died during sports events held in hot weather, while five others drowned after entering the water to cool off. A total of seven people have lost their lives due to the heatwave.
