Funeral Schedule Announced for Ali Khamenei

Iranian state television has announced the funeral schedule for former Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed in the U.S. and Israeli attacks on February 28. Funeral ceremonies will be held in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad between July 4 and July 9.

According to Iranian state television, the first funeral ceremony will take place on July 4-5 at Imam Khomeini Mosalla Mosque in the capital, Tehran.

A second ceremony will be held in Tehran on July 6. Additional ceremonies are scheduled for July 7 in Qom and July 9 in Mashhad.

The announcement stated that following the final ceremony, Khamenei’s body will be buried in a specially prepared area within the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad.

Iranian state television, while providing details about the process, noted that the ceremonies would be organized as public events.

Khamenei was killed during the first hours of the war that began with the U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, when his official residence was struck. His wife, daughter-in-law, and 14-month-old grandchild were also killed in the attack.
