Keiko Fujimori, the candidate of the right-wing Popular Force Party (Fuerza Popular), has won the second round of Peru’s presidential election, which was held on June 7.
The National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has completed the vote count. According to the official results, Fujimori defeated left-wing candidate Roberto Sanchez by approximately 50,000 votes, securing the presidency.
Peru’s National Jury of Elections is expected to officially certify the election result on July 3, following a contentious electoral process.
In a statement posted on her account on X, the social media platform owned by the U.S.-based X company, Fujimori commented on the election results.
Noting that the ONPE had reviewed 100 percent of the vote tally sheets and that all objections related to the election results had been resolved, Fujimori said:
“With each passing day, we are one step closer to embarking on a path of order and hope for all Peruvians.”
