Trump: Iran Wants a Deal Very Much, but I’m Not Sure It Will Keep Its Word

U.S. President Donald Trump said that Iran is “very eager” to reach an agreement with the United States, but expressed doubts about whether Tehran would honor such a deal.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on his return flight from Türkiye following the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government, Trump commented on U.S.-Iran tensions, the NATO Summit, and relations with Türkiye.

Assessing the latest U.S. strikes against Iran, Trump said:

“I told them that every time they hit us, we would respond twenty times harder, and that’s exactly what we did last night.”

Trump acknowledged that Iran had launched some retaliatory attacks but claimed that the United States had already secured a military advantage.

“From a military standpoint, we’ve already won. They have very little left.”

Claiming that Iran is eager to negotiate with Washington, Trump added:

“They called not long ago. They want a deal so badly. I just don’t know if they’re worth it. I’m not sure they’ll honor any agreement that is reached. That’s the problem.”

Asked about allegations that Iran had targeted commercial vessels, Trump replied:

“To be honest, it’s a little crazy. They’re acting a bit erratically, but they still want a deal very badly.”
