British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz during their first phone call.
The United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, and U.S. President Donald Trump held their first telephone conversation, during which they discussed developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.
Burnham began his first international phone call as prime minister by congratulating Trump on successfully hosting the FIFA World Cup.
In a statement, the Prime Minister’s Office said:
“The Prime Minister outlined the United Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring the security of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.”
The statement also noted that Burnham reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to the security of its allies, outlined his government’s political agenda, and invited Trump to attend the G20 Summit, which will be held in Manchester next year.
Trump Issues Statement
Trump said he had a productive conversation with Burnham and announced that the two leaders would meet in the near future.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“I had a very good conversation with the United Kingdom’s new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham. We discussed many topics, including the extraordinary relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States. We will meet in the near future to discuss our shared interests.”
