A cyberattack targeting the online training system of the Korea National Diplomatic Academy (KNDA), which operates under South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, may have compromised the personal data of approximately 10,000 current and former diplomatic personnel.
According to Yonhap News Agency, citing an unnamed Ministry of Foreign Affairs official, the ministry shut down the online training system after being notified in February 2026 of suspicious access to the platform.
The official stated that the cyberattack may have resulted in the leakage of personal information belonging to around 10,000 individuals, including both active and retired diplomats.
The ministry official said there is currently no evidence that sensitive personal information, such as identification numbers, mobile phone numbers, or home addresses, was compromised. However, the official noted that the ministry does not currently possess the technical capabilities needed to identify those responsible for the attack.
“We are not ruling out any possibility, including the involvement of overseas hacker groups. We consider this a matter of national security,” the official said.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that the investigation into the cyberattack is ongoing.
