Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov briefed his U.S. counterpart, Marco Rubio, on the latest developments along the front line in Ukraine during a meeting in Manila, while criticizing continued Western arms deliveries to Kyiv.
According to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, details were shared regarding the meeting between Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, which took place in Manila, the capital of the Philippines.
The ministry stated that Ukraine was among the key topics discussed during the talks, with Lavrov informing Rubio about what he described as the actual situation on the battlefield. Lavrov also stressed that the continued supply of weapons to the Ukrainian government and the destabilizing policies pursued by European countries aimed at inflicting a “strategic defeat” on Russia were unacceptable.
The statement added that the Russian foreign minister reaffirmed Moscow’s readiness to pursue a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and emphasized that Russia remains committed to the proposals put forward by the United States during the Anchorage Summit.
Diplomatic Contacts to Continue
According to the ministry, both sides agreed to maintain contacts at the level of their foreign ministries. The discussions also covered efforts to restore the normal functioning of the two countries’ diplomatic missions.
The diplomats further expressed satisfaction over the resumption of contacts between Roscosmos and NASA and voiced support for strengthening inter-parliamentary dialogue and expanding cultural ties.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also noted that the latest developments in the Persian Gulf were discussed during the meeting.
