Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Ukraine’s attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea was not an accident, as Kyiv claims, but a deliberate act. He added that Tehran would take all necessary steps to hold Ukraine accountable.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Baghaei strongly condemned the attack on the Iranian vessel, rejecting Ukraine’s assertion that the incident was accidental.
According to Baghaei, all available evidence indicates that the strike was carried out intentionally and directly targeted the Iranian ship.
‘Ukraine Will Be Held Accountable’
The Iranian spokesperson said Tehran would use all available legal and diplomatic means to ensure such incidents do not happen again and to hold Ukraine responsible for its actions.
On July 25, Iran’s Foreign Ministry announced that an Iranian vessel operating in Russian territorial waters had been struck by Ukrainian forces, killing one crew member.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later spoke with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Sybiha, telling him that Kyiv would be required to compensate Iran for all damages resulting from the attack.
‘Kyiv’s Activities in Iraq Are Dangerous’
Baghaei also criticized Ukraine’s activities in the region, expressing concern over what he described as actions threatening Iraq’s sovereignty and security in northern Iraq.
“A party involved in a conflict that has lasted for four years, and which is seeking support through ‘unconventional’ methods, intends to carry out a false flag operation in our region. This poses a serious threat to the entire region. We remain in contact with the Iraqi authorities on this matter,” Baghaei said.
