Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said that Tehran does not interfere in Iraq’s internal affairs, emphasizing that Iran would support decisions taken by Iraqi political actors within the framework of the country’s constitution.
Ghalibaf announced that Iran and Iraq had signed a detailed memorandum of understanding on security and border security. He also stated that security issues in Iraq and the situation of armed groups were discussed during the talks between the two countries.
“We Do Not Interfere in Iraq’s Internal Affairs”
According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Ghalibaf maintained that Tehran does not interfere in Iraq’s domestic politics.
Ghalibaf said, “Iran never interferes in Iraq’s internal affairs,” stressing that Iran respects decisions made by Iraqi political groups and officials in accordance with the country’s constitution.
He added that Iran would support any agreement reached by Iraqi parties within the constitutional framework while preserving their independence. Ghalibaf described Tehran’s approach toward Iraq as that of a “neighboring, friendly and brotherly country.”
Emphasis on Security and Border Cooperation
Ghalibaf also stated that the memorandum signed between Iran and Iraq on security and border security was important for strengthening cooperation between the two countries. He noted that Iraq’s security situation and issues concerning armed groups were also addressed during the discussions.
