Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Ukraine’s continued requests for new weapons from the West will not prevent Russia from achieving the objectives of its special military operation. Peskov stressed that Moscow remains open to a political and diplomatic settlement, but the operation will continue as long as Kyiv fails to demonstrate the necessary political will.
Speaking to reporters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the latest developments.
Referring to Ukraine’s ongoing requests for new weapons from Western countries, Peskov said, “Ukraine continues to request new types of weapons for both defensive and offensive purposes. This in no way can prevent the special military operation from continuing until its objectives are fully achieved.”
‘A Political Solution Is Our Preferred Option’
Peskov reiterated that Moscow has always given priority to resolving the conflict through diplomatic means, stating:
“For us, resolving this conflict through political and diplomatic means has always been the preferred option. The moment the Kyiv regime demonstrates goodwill and shows that it is ready to make the important decisions that need to be taken, everything can move onto a peaceful path. As Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated, we remain open to such an approach.”
Peskov argued that the only obstacle to creating the conditions for peace negotiations is Ukraine’s position.
“Only because the Kyiv regime is not prepared to pursue a peaceful settlement will the special military operation continue until all of our objectives have been fully achieved. At present, the liberation of Russian regions and the Donetsk People’s Republic is continuing,” he said.
He also described the capture of Kostiantynivka as a highly significant step both tactically and strategically.
“Our Armed Forces are continuing their efforts to establish a security zone, or buffer zone, and this work will continue,” Peskov added.
Confrontational Rhetoric Ahead of the NATO Summit
Commenting on the diplomatic atmosphere ahead of the NATO Summit to be held in Ankara, Peskov criticized statements made by NATO member states.
“As part of the preparations for this summit, we have heard numerous statements concerning our country. Unfortunately, these statements have not focused on constructive cooperation or dialogue but have instead been confrontational in nature. We will see how these positions are reflected in the summit documents, what statements will be made, what documents will be signed, and what issues will be discussed during bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.”
Peskov said Moscow is closely monitoring the summit.
“Naturally, this is an event of great interest to us as well. We will carefully follow all news and information coming from Ankara,” he added.
Contacts with the United States Continue
Peskov also confirmed that Russia continues to maintain communication channels with the United States regarding efforts to resolve the Ukraine crisis.
“As you know, we continue our contacts with the Americans through our established working channels. We hope that their efforts to steer the entire situation toward a peaceful course of development will ultimately be crowned with success,” he said.
