Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that a war is currently raging across Eurasia at full speed and that local conflicts are taking place in different parts of the world.
Speaking at a session of the Council on Foreign and Defense Policy, Lavrov made significant remarks regarding the global security architecture and regional tensions.
Describing the current situation as “definitely a new war,” the Russian diplomat said historians would decide whether the scale of these conflicts should ultimately be defined as a global war.
“They are trying to remove Russia as a global actor”
Arguing that tensions in Eurasia escalated with the Ukraine crisis, Lavrov said:
“War is already ongoing in Eurasia at full speed, including the West’s aggressive policy against Russia through Ukraine. This is another attempt to weaken our country and remove Russia from the list of key global actors. At the same time, operations have also begun in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.”
Lavrov also pointed out that clashes are taking place along the borders of major countries in the southern and eastern parts of Asia, adding that “nothing has yet been resolved” in Latin America either.
“Armenia is being drawn into an anti-Russian camp”
Claiming that Western powers are targeting Russia’s allies and neighbors, Lavrov also addressed the pressure being exerted on Armenia. He argued that the West is currently trying to apply in Armenia the same strategy it previously used in Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine.
“The West is trying to pull our allies, and above all our neighbors, away from us. Now they are attempting to draw Armenia into the same flawed logic. All of this has one single goal: to harm Russia as much as possible and make it more difficult for Russia to remain and grow stronger as a truly great power and civilization.”
Monitoring the special military operation and the role of diplomacy
Lavrov stated that Russia’s “special military operation” in Ukraine and Donbass is being closely monitored by both friendly and hostile countries. He summarized the primary mission of Russian diplomacy with the following words:
“The course of the operation is being watched very carefully by our neighbors, our friends, and our enemies. The key condition for strengthening Russia’s influence around the world is for this operation to achieve all of its objectives. The top priority of our diplomacy is to create all the necessary conditions on the foreign relations front so that our soldiers in the field can carry out the most effective, successful, and victorious actions possible.”
