Lavrov: Western Europeans and Washington’s Other Allies Are Ashamed to Make Fundamental Assessments

Recalling that Russia and Venezuela have a long history of strategic relations, Lavrov stressed that Moscow’s position on the current situation remains unchanged.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made statements on the international agenda at a press conference held after talks with his Namibian counterpart, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi.

Assessing the United States’ aggressive actions toward Venezuela, Lavrov said: “Our position has not changed. This position is a fundamental one, based on respect for the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states whose governments naturally represent the interests of their entire populations,” and continued:

“Venezuela is precisely such a state. Therefore, our fundamental assessment of the illegal operation carried out by the United States remains valid and is shared by the overwhelming majority of countries representing the global majority, including those in the Global South and East.”

Lavrov added: “Despite the fact that a grave violation of international law is obvious to everyone, only Western Europeans and Washington’s other allies are avoiding making fundamental assessments, seemingly out of embarrassment.”
