Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a meeting on the development of autonomous and unmanned systems that although the country is lagging behind in certain areas—particularly in unmanned taxi technologies—it has the industrial base and human capital potential to become one of the leaders in this field in a short time.
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a working meeting focused on the development of autonomous and unmanned systems in the country. It was reported that the aim of the meeting was to assess Russia’s current position in this field and to determine new steps to be taken.
In his speech at the meeting, Putin noted that Russia is behind in some segments.
“Russia is currently significantly behind a number of countries in certain areas of unmanned systems, for example in the field of unmanned taxis.”
At the same time, the Russian leader emphasized that the country’s accumulated capabilities represent a major advantage:
“Russia has the necessary industrial infrastructure and qualified personnel to join the ranks of leaders in the development of unmanned systems.”
Calling on the government to accelerate the integration of autonomous solutions into various sectors of the economy, Putin said, “The Cabinet must remove regulatory and administrative barriers that hinder the implementation of autonomous technologies.”
Putin also instructed that small unmanned devices, such as delivery robots, be incorporated into the legal framework without delay.
