India has signed a 10-year LNG agreement with the United Arab Emirates. While the deal aims to increase bilateral trade to $200 billion by 2032, uncertainty remains over a potential trade agreement with the United States.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held talks in New Delhi that lasted nearly three hours.
As part of the discussions, a 10-year LNG supply agreement was signed between the UAE’s state-owned Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and India’s Hindustan Petroleum Corporation. Under the agreement, liquefied natural gas worth up to $3 billion will be supplied starting in 2028.
Trade Target to Double
According to officials, the agreement elevates India to the position of the UAE’s largest LNG customer. The UAE side stated that India is expected to account for 20 percent of its LNG sales by 2029.
Modi said that a broad agenda aimed at further strengthening the “multidimensional friendship” between the two countries was discussed.
It was reported that trade volume between India and the UAE reached $100 billion in the 2025 fiscal year.
