French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that Europe must be an integral part of the negotiation process aimed at resolving the Ukraine crisis.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X, Macron said that Europe should assume a more active and fully participatory role in negotiations to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
“I have just spoken with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. We discussed the negotiation process that began last week in Abu Dhabi. We agreed that European countries must be fully involved in the issues under discussion,” Macron said.
The French leader also stated that Paris would continue its determination to increase pressure on Russia.
Earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said that the 20-point framework agreement aimed at ending the conflict would be implemented in two stages: first to be signed between the United States and Ukraine, and then between the United States and Russia. He noted that the European Union would not be a direct party to the agreement.
Emphasizing that negotiations are still ongoing and that the current structure is not final, Sybiha said the European Union is not expected to be a formal party to the agreement, but will play a role both in the negotiation process and in the provision of security guarantees.
