Trump signed a presidential order authorizing the imposition of tariffs on countries that supply oil to Cuba.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed a presidential decree allowing Washington to impose additional customs duties on imports from countries that supply oil to Cuba.
In the presidential order released by the White House, the following statements were included:
“In order to address the national emergency declared by this order, I have determined that it is necessary and appropriate to establish a system of customs tariffs, as described below. Under this system, an additional ad valorem customs duty may be imposed on the importation of goods originating from any foreign country that sells, supplies, or otherwise provides petroleum to Cuba, either directly or indirectly.”
National emergency declared in the United States
In addition, Trump signed a presidential order declaring a national emergency due to an alleged security threat originating from Cuba.
The presidential order published by the White House on Thursday included the following statement:
“Therefore, I, Donald J. Trump, President of the United States, hereby determine that the situation with respect to Cuba constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, the source of which is in whole or substantial part outside the United States, and I hereby declare a national emergency with respect to that threat.”
All Canadian-made aircraft lose U.S. certification
Trump announced that the U.S. certifications of all Canadian-manufactured aircraft have been suspended after Canada refused to certify U.S.-made Gulfstream jets.
He also warned that if the issue is not resolved, a 50 percent tariff will be imposed on all aircraft sold from Canada to the United States.
