Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) is facing a deep crisis and is on the brink of self-destruction.
Lavrov emphasized that the OSCE is currently experiencing a very serious crisis, underlining that the organization is close to destroying itself.
Speaking at the beginning of a meeting in Moscow with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis, as well as OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Lavrov drew attention to the situation the organization has fallen into under the influence of Western countries.
Pointing to the deep crisis within the OSCE, Lavrov stressed that the steps taken have brought the organization dangerously close to collapse.
The Russian foreign minister said the root cause of the OSCE’s crisis lies in the radical departure by many Western countries from the principles enshrined in the Helsinki Final Act and in declarations adopted at the organization’s summits.
Lavrov added that during his meeting with Cassis and Sinirlioğlu, they would discuss global processes that have negatively affected the OSCE.
