Mali Transitional National Council Member: ICC Is Not Impartial in Cases Involving Africa

A Malian expert criticizing the International Criminal Court’s (ICC) approach to Africa said there are serious question marks surrounding verdicts delivered in several cases.

The ICC’s approach to cases involving Africa has been described as lacking impartiality.

Speaking to Sputnik, Kadidia Sangare, a member of Mali’s Transitional National Council, said the court has lost its legitimacy on the continent due to the fact that the majority of its cases focus on Africa.

Sangare stated that the ICC has effectively been operating like an “African Criminal Court,” targeting African leaders. She added that arrest warrants issued against Omar al-Bashir in the Darfur case and Laurent Gbagbo have raised serious concerns.

She emphasized that Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger decided to withdraw from the ICC as a result of this approach.
