Trump Extends U.S. Sanctions on Russia for One Year Over Ukraine

U.S. President Donald Trump has extended for one year the sanctions imposed on Russia under the state of emergency declared due to the conflict in Ukraine.

President Donald Trump signed a decision prolonging the duration of sanctions against Russia for another year. The move is based on the continuation of the “national emergency” regime declared in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In the executive order, Trump stated, “I am extending for one year the national emergency declared with respect to the situation in Ukraine.” According to the document, as the national emergency linked to the conflict in Ukraine remains in effect, the sanctions imposed on Russia will also continue to be enforced.

The document emphasized that the situation in Ukraine continues to pose an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.
