China Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in the Middle East

China has called on all parties to halt military operations amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following US and Israeli strikes on Iran. As the regional crisis deepens after the killing of Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, Beijing emphasized dialogue and negotiations. Moscow, meanwhile, described the attacks as “a violation of international law.”

China’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement regarding the escalating conflict in the Middle East, urging all sides to immediately cease military actions.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said at a press conference on Monday, “We call on all parties to end military operations and prevent further escalation of the conflict.” Mao stressed that China is ready to work with the international community to bring the situation under control and prevent the conflict from spreading further.

“Dialogue and Negotiation” Message

Mao Ning reiterated that Beijing supports a diplomatic solution, stating, “China is ready to work with the international community to actively promote peace and conflict prevention, advance the resolution of issues through dialogue and negotiations, and safeguard peace in the Middle East and around the world.”

Her remarks came at a time when military tensions in the region are rapidly intensifying.

US and Israel Strike Iran

On Saturday, the United States and Israel launched airstrikes on various targets in Iran, including the capital, Tehran. The attacks reportedly caused infrastructure damage and civilian casualties.

Iran retaliated by launching strikes targeting Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East, bringing the regional crisis to a new level with reciprocal military actions.

Attacks Despite Nuclear Talks

The strikes took place despite ongoing negotiations between Washington and Tehran regarding Iran’s nuclear program. The two sides most recently met on February 26 in Geneva. The developments have cast a shadow over the diplomatic process.

Death of Khamenei and 40 Days of Mourning

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed in the attacks. Authorities in Tehran declared 40 days of national mourning. His death is seen as a development that could have serious consequences not only for Iran’s domestic politics but also for regional power dynamics.

Strong Reaction from Moscow

Russian President Vladimir Putin described the assassination of Khamenei as “a brutal violation of all norms of human morality and international law.” Russia’s Foreign Ministry also condemned the US and Israeli strikes and called for an immediate de-escalation and an end to hostilities.
