Local Elections in Germany: Two Candidates of Turkish Origin Elected Mayors

In the second round of local elections held in the state of Bavaria, Germany, two candidates of Turkish origin were elected as mayors.

In the runoff elections held on Sunday, March 22:

In Kitzingen, a town with a population of 23,000, 31-year-old Enis Tiz, the candidate of the Free Voters Party (Freie Wähler), received 55.3% of the vote. He defeated the candidate of the Christian Social Union (CSU), Bavaria’s strongest political party, and was elected Mayor of Kitzingen.

In Rosenheim, located south of Munich with a population of 65,000, 31-year-old Abuzer Erdoğan, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SPD), won 53.4% of the vote and was elected mayor.
